On 8 May, GIR's GHG Inventory Management Team launched a meeting for a research project to develop a framework for national GHG inventories on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) activities.
![]() As the 2027 IPCC Methodology Report on CDR and CCUS is expected to be published by the end of next year, inventory experts at GIR have started working on this project to get themselves equipped with country-specific guidelines and tools for estimation of emissions and removals from carbon management. ![]() External advisors from Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), Korea CCUS Association (K-CCUS) and Carbon Market Division of Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE) provided feedback on the overall project including focus areas, expected outcome, and the level/choice of methodology to reflect ROK's national circumstances associated with CDR/CCUS activities on the GHG inventory. ![]() Recognizing the growing significance of CDR/CCUS technologies in meeting the national mitigation target, the project will contribute to the arrangement of the MRV framework for inventory compilers to ensure enhanced transparency and prevent double-counting across different sectors in compliance with the upcoming IPCC guidance. |
