On 21 April 2026, the GHG Inventory Management Team (hereafter the Inventory Team) organized this year's first internal MRV workshop for the 2026 National GHG Inventory that covers the period of 1990 to 2024.





Upon submission of GHG emissions data by inventory agencies and governing ministries which was due 31 March, experts of each sector (Energy, IPPU, Agriculture, LULUCF and Waste) from the Inventory Team reviewed submitted data to verify if there is any miscalculation of underestimation or overestimation of emissions and removals.





At the workshop, each sectoral experts delivered presentations on their findings to share with colleagues areas of improvement that have been and shall be made in the next submission of GHG inventories. 





This year's workshop included discussions on how to reflect feedback from the Technical Expert Review (TER) on the 2024 National Inventory Report which was conducted on 16-20 March in the latest reporting year of ROK's 2026 GHG inventory.





As GIR experts noted inconsistencies in emissions (and removals) due to the use of invalid methodology, activity data and emission factors as well as parameters, an official notice with verification results will be sent by GIR to inventory agencies and governing ministries. The results will include requests to review and make corrections, as appropriate, in the second submission of GHG emissions and removal data which is due early June.
