The Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Research Center of Korea (GIR) was established on June 15th, 2010 under 「Framework Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth」.

GIR prepares national GHG statistics every year, publishes them through an analysis and verification, and establishes a Management Plan of the National GHG Inventory every five years for efficient and systematic management of national GHG statistics. In addition, GIR operates National GHGs Management System (NGMS) that manages emissions and emission trading volumes of individual business sites in detail, and contributes to the establishment and advancement of emission trading systems (ETS) by seeking ways to link with the international carbon markets. GIR also supporting the establishment of Long-term low greenhouse gas Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) scenarios for a successful first step toward carbon-neutrality. Finally, through international cooperation projects, GIR educates and promotes information related to GHG inventory and reduction policies at domestic and abroad, as well as transferring related knowledge to developing countries.

In the future, our center will rigorously continue our quest to seek solutions for the world climate change crisis as a global think tank specializing in the reduction of GHG emissions.
Based on the public service ethics, we will create an organizational culture that ensures fairness and integrity.

Thank you for your continued interest and support toward these endeavors.
