It is also known as the Northern Palace because its location is furthest north when compared to the neighboring palaces of Changdeokgung (Eastern Palace) and Gyeonghuigung (Western palace). The Northern Palace The premises were once destroyed by fire during Imjin War (1592-1598). However, all of the palace buildings were later restored under the leadership of Heungseondaewongun during the reign of King Gojong (1852- 1919). The palace is one of the South Korea’s must-visit attractions. Built in the 14th century, it is the oldest Joseon Dynasty palace in the nation, and it’s right in the heart of Jongno-Gu, the most culturally happening part of Seoul and has got a brilliant ceremony of guard’s.
